Governor Basin, Sydney, and Yankee Boy Basins. From Ouray, we travel past the famous ‘Drinking Cup’ where miners’ stopped to water their mules, past the historic town of Sneffels, where the old boarding house even boasted a full-sized organ and the then-population topped out at 2000. Miners dined on the finest food, and folks in Ouray helped with entertainment in the nearby mining camps. Following the Camp Bird Road, our tour takes through the Sneffels-Red Mountain-Telluride mining district, past Camp Bird, Revenue, and Ruby Trust mines. Long dormant, some of the old mines, like the Ruby Trust, are now active again as silver and gold prices rise. We tour Yankee Boy Basin, turn around at scenic Governor Basin, then head back down to Ouray.
Governor Basin video with great sound track.
