Alpine Loop Tour. Connecting Ouray, Silverton, and Lake City, Colorado, this rugged, four-wheel drive route travels over steep mountain passes, some topping 12,000 feet. A seasonal Scenic Byway, the route follows mining and stage trails laid out more than a century ago, and winds through many ghost towns, past mining relics, cascading waterfalls, fields of alpine wildflowers, and some of the most spectacular scenery in the world! Tour Engineer, Hurricane and Cinnamon Passes, California and Corkscrew Gulches, historic mines and ghost towns of Ironton, Animas Forks, Capitol City.

Alpine Loop Video. This is a great video, it shows Jeeps leaving Ouray, taking the Alpine Loop to the top of Engineer Pass – then returning to Ouray. It does not show Lake City or Silverton, but does give a good feel of the ride to the top of the summit.
