Telluride via Imogene Pass & Ophir Pass
Full Day (6-7 hours) | $125 Adult | $65 Children 5-12 | 4-person minimum
Highpoint elevation, 13,789 ft
This tour takes us over some of the highest San Juan Mountain passes. Traveling from Ouray past waterfalls, fields of wildflowers, and the old ghost town of Sneffels, we cross Imogene Pass, 13,117, ft before descending into Telluride. After a lunch stop, we return to Ouray over Ophir Pass, cresting at 13,789 ft. Enroute, we pass by the historic Gold King Mine and the town of Ophir, site of the Ames Power Plant, the first in the US to transmit alternating current. The Ophir Pass route was once a wagon toll road to transport ore from the town of Ophir to Silverton for processing and still serves as a ‘commuter route’ for local folks who live in Silverton and Work in Telluride.
