Ghost town tour. If you are a history buff, or just enjoy poking around in some mining relics and ghost towns, you’ll have a great time on this tour. Fun for the entire family! At Red Mountain Pass, we turn ascend to Hurricane Pass overlooking beautiful Lake Como. The scenic rocky ride through California, Picuyne, and Placer Gulches takes you through more ghost towns, winding up at Animas Forks. At 11,200 feet, this historic mining town had become a boomtown mining community by 1883 with a hotel, numerous saloons, general store, and two newspapers. It was served by one of Colorado’s highest railroads. Relics of the old railroad are still there, as is the Walsh House, home to a family who once owned the infamous Hope Diamond. The tour stops in Silverton, then returns to Ouray with stops at the old town of Ironton in the Red Mountain Mining District,
Box lunch available.
